Mercedes Pedroche

Born in Madrid (Spain), 1974.

Master in Theater Creation (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), directed by the playwright and theater director Juan Mayorga, working with professors such as Pablo Messiez, Álvaro Tato, Enzo Cormann, Mateo Feijóo, José Sanchís Sinisterra, José Luis García Barientos and Sol Picó.

She developed her dance training in Madrid (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, Carmen Senra Professional Dance School, Conservatorio Superior María de Ávila), New York (Steps, Broadway Dance Center), Rome (Istituto Addestramento Lavoratori dello Spettacolo) and Vienna (Impulstanz). She furthers her training through specific workshops with Mónica Valenciano, Iñaki Azpillaga, Germán Jaúregui, Josef Frucek, Linda Kapetanea, Roberto Olivan, Guillermo Weickert, Aitana Cordero, Ángela Rodríguez, Chevi Muraday, Rebeca Falcón, Mónica Runde, Teresa Nieto, Mauro Mosconi, Susan Taylor and Joe Lanteri, among others.

Bachelor Degree in Business and Economics (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) and Degree in Classical Guitar (Real Conservatorio de Música de Madrid).

She begins her professional journey as a performer in 1995 under the direction of the spanish musician and composer Nacho Cano, in the Un mundo separado por el mismo Dios/ A world separated by the same God musical tour. She has moved within a number of different dance environments at the hands of contemporary dance choreographers such as Ángela Rodríguez, Ramón Oller, Sol Picó, Chevi Muraday, Juan de Torres, Daniela Merlo, Stephan Boko and Richard Siegal. She has also worked in musical theater (Grease, Peter Pan, La Magia de Broadway), films (20 centímetros, Los Manager, Una hora más en Canarias), events, commercials, and for spanish and italian television (TVE1, A3, Tele5, RAI1- Italy, Mediaset-Italy).

From 2005, she channels her professional career towards creation and teaching. Her most personal concerns are explored in contemporary dance works such as: Parámetros/ Parameters (First Prize for Contemporary Dance at the IX Teatro de Madrid Dance Marathon; Prize for the Best Female Performer at the IX International Choreography Contest Burgos-New York; Artistic residence at Centro de Danza Canal), Cambio curso de discusión avanzada por asiento con vistas/ I exchange a course of advanced argumentation for a seat with a view (Special Jury Prize at the IV Teatro de Madrid Dance Marathon; selected piece for the XIX Madrid Choreographic Contest), Réquiem al 33/ Requiem at 33 (Aid for Choreographic Creation 2008 from the Comunidad de Madrid), Que paren la tierra que me subo a una canica/ Stop the Earth, I´m getting on to a marble, Déjame que te cuente/ Let me tell you (selected piece for the XXI Madrid Choreographic Contest), Hembra/ Female and Grita/ Shout (piece created for the Bachelor in Dance of the Universidad de Antioquia / Medellín, Colombia).

These pieces have been presented at festivals such as Festival Internacional Madrid en Danza, Mes de Danza de Sevilla, Festival Distrito Danza (Madrid), Lekuz Leku (Bilbao), Huellas-Danza en paisajes insólitos (Huelva, Granada, Sevilla), Cartografías de la Danza (Madrid), Gatadans (Madrid), Ciclo Desbordarte (Madrid), Festival 3D (Madrid), Gracias por favor (Madrid), Festival Encuentros en Asturias (Gijón), Festival Canarios dentro y fuera (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), Nerja Danza (Málaga), Festival Al borde (Medellín, Colombia) and Festival Endanzante (Medellín, Colombia), among others.

She has combined the creation of contemporary dance pieces with commissioned choreographic designs for films and corporate events such as the Opening Ceremony of the IX South American Games Medellín 2010 (Colombia), the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 55th San Sebastian International Film Festival, the show Cutty Sark/ Shanghai-London, the Ceremony of the Efficiency Awards and several works for companies (Ericsson, Randstad, Energy System, Axe, Balay, RTVE).

Under the direction of the filmmaker Manuel Palacios she collaborates as a choreographer and performer in the documentary Sin vendas en la memoria/ No more bandages in our memory, commissioned by the Basque Government as a tribute to the victims of terrorism.

In conjunction with her work as creator, she is also involved in pedagogic activities. She has been teaching at the Professional Dance Training of Contemporary Dance program at the Escuela de Danza Carmen Senra (Madrid), guest teacher at the Broadway Dance Center- Tokyo (Japan) and in several spanish and colombian art institutions (Red de Danza Ciudad de Medellín, Instituto de Cultura y Patrimonio de Antioquia, Centro Cultural Facultad de las Artes de la Universidad de Antioquia, Seminario Internacional sobre Dramaturgias del Cuerpo). At the present time she teaches at Bambudanza dance school (Madrid).

Between 2010 and 2016 she has developed her professional work in Colombia as a professor in the Bachelor of Dance at the Universidad de Antioquia/ Medellín and also directing ÁRBOL-Procesos creativos vivos, a creation and training platform that promotes interdisciplinary links and performances in museums and public spaces of the city. She has also been a member of the jury of the Dance Creation Aids of the Instituto Distrital de las Artes de Bogotá and the Ministry of Culture of Colombia.

She currently lives in Madrid. She is involved in her new creation Artificios y Leopardos/ Artifices and Leopards, winner of the Creation and Research Residency A GATAS promoted by Teatro de la Abadía, Centro Cultural Conde Duque and Resad (Royal Superior School of Dramatic Art). It would be premiered in November 2019 at Teatro de la Abadía (Madrid).
